To G. Non & Kong. Case + 50 were found by the Inspectors at once. None were found by them.
On May 8th (Tuesday) I was sent for to see a supposed Case of Remittent Fever which had been admitted to hospital during my absence in Canton. This patient was one of our host tai boys who had been re-engaged. Whenever I saw him and examined him carefully, I came to the conclusion that he was suffering from Bubonic Plague and isolated him at once.
On Wednesday, 9th May, I held a post-mortem examination on the body.
On Thursday, 10th May, I received an order from the Officer Administering the Government for a report on my visit to Canton and a few minutes later, an order to go to the Tung Wah Hospital & inspect cases of sickness there. I went at once and found approximately 20 people lying there affected with Plague, all in an advanced stage of the disease. These cases, as far as I could ascertain, all came from the neighbourhood of the Tung Wah Hospital, from Market Street, Tank Lane, and Ladder Street.
I reported at once to Dr. Ayres and verbally informed Mr. Stewart Lockhart and Eaton.
